It is also common to see prairie dogs engage in what looks liking“ kissing”. The“ kiss”is used to distinguish one coterie member from another. When prairie dogs recognize each other, they will participate in elaborate glooming behavior. If one of the prairie dogs is an intruder, teeth may be bared, territory fought over, claimed or reclaimed by dominate males. In most case the outsiders flees.

  题目

The passage indicates that a prairie dog from one coterie entering the territory of another coterie would most likely be:

  F.killed

  G.threatened or attacked

  H.unnoticed or ignored

  J.welcoMed

这道题主要在考察犬鼠对于外来入侵者的反应,从“If one of the prairie dogs is an intruder, teeth may be bared, territry fought over, claimed or reclaimed by dominate males. In most case the outsiders flees”这句中的“fought'' the outsiders flees”我们可以明显的看出他们有过争斗,而且结果是入侵者落荒而逃。

In the office, Vitor Gruen was famous for keeping two or three secretaries working full time, as he moved from one to the next, dictating non-stop in his thick Viennese accent. He emigrated to New York with his wife in 1938. In the early fifties, he designed an outdoor shopping center called Northland outside Detroit. It covered a hundred and sixty -three acres and had nearly ten thousand parking spaces. Thiswas little more than a decade than a half since he stepped off to the boat. .....He was devastated.

  题目

Details in themost strongly suggest that the author views Gruen that:

  A.continual optimist

  B.frustrated optimist

  C.greedy entrepreneur

  D.rash decision maker

As it is used in line 81-82, the phrase well-defended prey most nearly refers toprey that:

  A.have a hard outer shell

  B.attack with a lethal bite

  C.travel and attack in groups

  D.move quickly

The aspiration to neutrality findsprominent expression in our politics and law. Although it derives from theliberal tradition of political thought, its province is not limited to thoseknown as liberals, rather than conservatives, in American politics; it can befound across the political spectrum. Liberals invoke the ideal of neutralitywhen opposing school paryer or restrictions onabortion or attempts by certain groups to bring their morality into the public square.Conservatives appeal to neutrality when opposing attempts by government toimpose certain moral restrains—for the sake of workers’ safety or environmentalprotection or distributive justice-on the operation ofthe market economy.

  13. The main point of the second paragraph(line10-23) is that:

  A. liberals and conservatives haveessentially the same value systems.

  B. liberals and conservatives findgovernmental neutrality appealing for different reasons.

  C. conservatives are more interested in thenation’s economy than are liberals.

  D. liberals are responsible for the ideathat the U.S. government should be neutral.

The author mentions abalones and lobstersin the fifth paragraph primarily to:

Ad hoc ways of categorizing living things are useful. Practicalpeople doing practical things …

D show that people’s everyday categorizations are useful in meetingtheir particular needs.
