　　2015年12月12日ACT作文范文：

　　Mastery of a complex skill is often viewed as a sign of personal achievement. However, in order to make such an accomplishment, people often have to pay heavy prices, including time, effort and the loss of opportunities to do other things. While some people highly recommend such experience, considering it a rewarding process, others question whether the process was worthwhile. In my opinion, mastery of a complex skill should be encouraged because it could make us stronger as well as happier.

　　The process of acquiring a difficult skill is worthwhile because it helps shape people's character. When people are trying to learn a skill, especially a difficult one, a number of traits, such as determination, learning skills, patience and tolerance to frustration will play important roles in the process. They help the learner to stick longer and work more smartly. Without such abilities, it will be highly unlikely that someone could master a complex skill, such as playing a musical instrument or speaking a foreign language. While working hard to acquire a particular skill, these important traits will inevitably be strengthened in the person who makes serious efforts and expect to see results. They slowly become part of the person's character. When this happens, the benefits of learning a skill extend far beyond getting the skill alone, as a person with determination, patience and tenacity are more likely to succeed in other tasks they set their hearts on in their life and career. Therefore, the dedication and effort to mastering a difficult skill help people more than just getting the skill.

　　Apart from shaping the character, the process of acquiring a difficult skill could also make life more enjoyable. For people who are trying to acquire a skill that they are passionate about, such as practicing basket ball, the process will be fun and they are willing to stick to it as long as time allows. This willingness to commitment will naturally lead to progress, which will be a new source of joy. On the other hand, for those who started off less willingly, it could still be a very rewarding experience over time. When people use determination and hard-work to overcome difficulties and make progress, they will gain a sense of confidence and fulfillment. What is even better is that love for a skill is like an acquired taste, the more a person does it and the better he or she can do it, the more he or she will enjoy doing it. Eventually, it will develop into a hobby and enjoyable task. The mental reward people get from their effort makes it worthwhile.

　　While there are many benefits of working hard to acquire a skill, there are still people who think it is not necessary to devote so much time and energy on mastering a single skill. They believe variety and relaxation are better than specificity and tension when it comes to acquisition of skills. While variety and relaxation can indeed make life easier and full of new adventures, they are far less rewarding than a concentrated effort. When time and energy is conserved or distributed over a number of skills, not only will people miss joy from being good at something, they will also miss the opportunity to confront with their shortcomings. For example, when a person is trying really hard to be speak a foreign language, he or she will have to be disciplined, open minded, persistent and skillful at learning. As the success of the learning depends on these factors, it will be easy for a person to realize their lack of them. This realization is very likely to lead to improvements. Such active confrontation and improvement process will be much more rewarding than a laid-back attitude in promoting personal growth and success in other fields of life.

　　Although mastery of a complex skill may be a long and demanding process, the benefits people get from the process alone is worth the effort. It will not only make people stronger but also happier through constant confrontation of our shortcomings and joys from making progresses.
